Prime International Women’s Day Debate

Issue 07. March 2024

Hi ladies!

Thought to wish everyone a Very Happy International Women's Day!

Hope you are celebrating in at least some small way - a frosted cookie, a clink of champagne glasses with a girlfriend, maybe grabbing yourself some flowers or a ridiculously nice candle - something special to just celebrate you and being a woman! A delicious one at that.

I am a luxury candle FREAK and have a nose like a wolf - here are two links to some of my favorite suppliers.

THE DEBATE

Why do we Need an Int'l Women's Day anyway?

I was asked this question today and here was my reply. (Grab a glass and get comfy, now where the F is my soap box)

  • Women still are not paid as much as men in ANY industry - and the pay gap in the UK is WORSE that than in the EU & the USA
  • We have 2 geriatric men in diapers duking it out for the presidency in the USA - that is the BEST we could do - and its a surreal horror show. Why we cannot get a woman into the seat - preferably a mom in her early 40s - when it is 2024, not 1924, is......in a word ............ insane. It's legit depressing.
  • We do not have enough strong, smart women in positions of impact and influence in the private or public sector. Although we are making serious strides and collaborating - across the globe - there is a long way to go.
  • We just lost some more ground in the UK for female business owners and seed funding. Samantha Addy summarizes the knock on effect better than me here
  • A talented female law partner, age 47, mother to two young children Vanessa Ford, is believed to have had a serious mental health crisis, working 18 hours on a deal and feeling admittedly "helpless" in the months leading to her death - an inquiry is ongoing - read more here Do you really think her story is solitary?Consider what working mothers GO through to become Partners and to STAY competitive. Do you think.... that is fair?
  • Let us not forget the 2022 death of 22 year old teacher Mahsa Amini who died after being arrested in Tehran for how her hijab was worn. She was arrested by Iran's notorious "morality policy." The mortality police enforce the country's rules on hijabs and other conservative Islamic modes of dress and behavior.
  • And do not get me started on the racism PLUS sexism women have to deal with right now in every level of WELL KNOWN organisations.
  • Then there is BII - Breast Implant Illness (with over 500K women in a Facebook group & Mel Robbins herself - finally sharing information on the serious consequences from breast implants) - we were (and are) continually told "implants are completely safe". So is the birth control pill - but the number of women struggling so hard to get pregnant has skyrocketed. And 80% of the professionals in personal development (& likely half the American public) are on a drug called Ozempric - which is supposedly "completely safe" but was originally created for medical diabetics. NOW just about anyone can get a prescription because its treated like candy. We have NO idea what it does long term
  • Let's not forget - Australia - who ALSO does not have its act together. According to a Feb 2024 news article, Morgan Stanley pays its men FORTY PERCENT MORE than its women in Australia (!)

I could go on, and I love a little debate - but do you really think we DO NOT need an International Woman's Day?

Yes - I agree - the world at large is in crisis, there is a CRISIS OF LEADERSHIP and goodness knows men are ALSO suffering from extreme mental duress in toxic workplaces.

BUT LADIES - we need all the dang help and attention and nudge for change that we can get right now.

PRIME is all about taking men with us on the journey for change.

But if we stick our heads in the sand like Ostrich's refusing to read the headlines, one after another, forgetting the names of women on the battle field (yes I keep a list) - we will just look like a bunch of birds with our *sses in the air.

Now - I love to throw my tail in the air for other reasons.... but not for this one.

OK - that all just got serious - Let's Lighten the Mood

Maybe play some PINK or something. Eat a cookie. (Dawn climbing down off the soap box).

Until we meet again.

Light a spark.....
